Thomas Hawk

Among my contacts on Flickr, there is one person who’s pictures I don’t check systematically: Thomas Hawk. Why ? simply because I just can’t follow his production of images, because it is so huge and regular. As a matter of fact, this compulsive photographer considers himself as a photography factory and his goal is to publish 1’000’000 processed photos before he dies.

Lots of people on the internet have such projects, most of the time they will try to produce a daily work, whether it’s a photography, a drawing, a film or a poem, and in most of the cases they well never go further than a few days, or the quality of the works will drastically decrease. This is where Thomas Hawk differs from the ordinary mortals, by the high, sometimes exceptional quality of the over 18’000 pictures he has already published. There are several recurrent themes in his works and some are quite original or funny such as Beautiful Plastic People, which I particularly like, or the Neons series, but in the end he is comfortable in any type of photography or any light, and this is where I envy him the most.

What is also very surprising with this guy is that he seems to have a professional life and a busy social life: he is an adviser in investments, has a family and spends a lot of time blogging and helping people to better use social networks, flickr or digital cameras and stills finds time to answer interviews and meet friends !

If you wish to know more about him, check his photostream on flickr, his blog, or read this excellent interview of him.
